Why concept art is important and foreground, midground and background

Concept art is important because it is the foundation of your first idea for a character, it is the beginning of the ideation phase of development.

foreground – darker, more prominent in the image. The foreground has been described as the most desirable part of an image.

midground – links the two and shows clear transition between the foreground and background. Middle ground lies between the foreground and background of a painting. The objects in this area appear smaller.

background -lighter and shows fade in image, typically used to show the location of the scene. The background is a fundamental part of an image when showing mise en scene, for example, say if the image displays a cabin the background could show a forest.
